Audi e-tron Spyder
Audi e-tron Spyder is a new hybrid car having two electric motors and a twin-turbo V6 TDI of 221-kW, due to which it performs perfectly. This new concept is an open two-seater sports car with the classic proportion: with the length of 4.06 m, the width of 1.81 m, and the height of 1.11 m. It takes just 4.4 seconds to reach the speed of 62 mph and its top speed is 155 mph.
The e-tron Spyder has retained wedge like shape, exceptional sporty design and its elements of the former e-tron vehicles. Its body and overall appearance looks compact and powerful. The main features of this sports car include a side glass without frame, a central air inlet which is quite wide, the front with two air intakes at both sides marked by a sharp line, the trademark four rings above the single-frame, LED lights. One more distinctive feature of the e-tron Spyder are the wheels of 20 inches which are made of aluminum and carbon and which are comprised of 66 separate parts. By the combination of different materials such as leather, aluminum and carbon, the exterior of the car is perfectly liked with its interior and it reminds of a typical race car. Looking at this car from the back it seems to be markedly horizontal.
The interior design of the Audi e-tron Spyder can be characterized by lightweight construction and the impression of tidiness, elegance and sportiness, which is characteristic of the Audi design cars. The driver’s seat of the Audi e-tron Spyder is oriented to the driver, which is another typical element of Audi. This new sports car has a large display with MMI which is controlled using the MMI touch on the console or a touch-sensitive control panel located on the steering wheel. Information about the speed, which is showed in digital form, can be found using the dial instrument or the central display. The central display also gives information on temperature and ventilation. This display system is controlled using a touch-sensitive control panel, which is an element of new smart phones.
When creating the body of the concept car, the Audi Space Frame technology has been applied and the focus has been on the lightweight construction of the body. As a result, the supporting structure of the car is made of aluminum parts and its hood and other parts are made of carbon.
Due to different shapes and cross-sections, maximum stability is combined with minimal weight. Thus, the weight of the show car is only about 1,450 kg (3,196.70 lb). The Audi e-tron Spyder is fitted with six-cylinder, 3.0 TDI engine, which produces 221 kW (300 hp) and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque. The noise level of 3.0 TDI is actually low. This engine consumes approximately about 2.2 liters of diesel per 100 km (106.92 US mpg), which means that only 59 g/km (94.95 g/mile) of CO2 is being emitted. The hybrid vehicle by Audi has the advantages of quattro technology: 75 % of the torque is located to the rear and 25 % to the front. In case of the slip of an axle, the balance can be maintained using the central control of the entire drive system which is combined with the ESP. The concept car is perfect to drive in residential and other urban areas as well as in city traffic since the electric drive can be activated by itself.
